“What Abortion Funding? Where?” Don’t Believe the Left’s Abortion Rhetoric

Focus on the Family always encourages its constituents to call their U.S. representative and senators and make their voice heard.   Most recently we’ve been asking people to call their elected representatives about the danger in the healthcare reform bills pending in Congress because the proposals will use tax dollars to fund abortion-on-demand.

But just the other day we received a response from a citizen who had contacted Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) expressing concern about the healthcare abortion mandate, only to have Bennet respond with (at best) confusing rhetoric and (at worst) an intentional misrepresentation of the facts.  Here it is:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about using public money to fund abortions…Currently, there is no legislation before the Senate that would expand the use of federal funds to perform abortion beyond the laws that are already in place.

Don’t let your lawmaker play semantics like this.  Focus on the Family has researched and written about, in no uncertain terms, exactly how Congress will incorporate federal funding for abortions in any healthcare plan–unless concerned citizens request that abortion funding is specifically excluded:

Virtually every American, through private or public coverage, will eventually be in a healthcare plan that must meet a “minimum benefits” standard.  What will one of those minimum benefits be? Without a specific ban—abortion.  And healthcare plans will be required to contract with government-approved “essential providers,” like Planned Parenthood, to supply abortion services.

So pick up the phone and tell your U.S. representative and your two senators this:  oppose any healthcare bill that does not specifically exclude abortion coverage.

And if contacting your representative or senators makes you nervous (trust me, we’ve all been there!), here are simple tips to make the process quick and effective.

I find it so frustrating – to continue with calling my democrat Senator and Congressman because I always get the same type of responses on every issue. They don’t want to come right out and say they are going to vote for whatever Obama wants – but we know that is exactly what is happening. Sadly, I do not think any of these Democrats really care about what’s best for US. They continue wasting our hard earned tax payer dollars on things that the government has no business being involved in. They have forgotten the Constitution a long time ago.

I know I should keep up with the calls because it’s my duty as an American citizen – but it’s hard to stay motivated to do so, with what’s currently going on.
