Human-animal hybrids? No thanks.
The news of what liberals in Congress are doing on the Hill lately hasn’t exactly been encouraging. But here’s a piece of legislation that deserves some applause: The Human-Animal Hybrid Prohibition Act.
The what? No, we aren’t talking about science fiction or going back in time to visit Mr. Tumnus in Narnia. But we are talking about the very real possibility of researchers creating human-animal hybrids for research. These part-animal, part-human creations blur the lines between species – not to mention the possibility of intentionally or unintentially changing what it means to be human.
Researchers have already experimented with putting human DNA in rabbit eggs, human brain cells in mice, and other research that has disturbing implications for the integrity and dignity of homo sapiens. As firm believers in the sanctity of human life, we must say no to anything that harms, destroys, or blurs the lines of what it means to be a human being, made in the image of God.
Last year, the British government gave a wholesale endorsement of this research – and we may soon be following in their footsteps if we don’t wake up to the dangers of this research and pass laws like this one from Senators Brownback and Landrieu.
